I Was Broken

Well, it's day one of Rob's Birthday Blog Train engineered by Jeanette at RobMusement. I am honored that she asked me to hitch my blog to the train and that you are riding along with us.

For day one, she gave us the choice of picking a movie or song of Rob's to write about. I didn't have to think long at all. Those of you who have been following me for awhile know that Rob's music is what pushed me over the edge into Robsanity. After watching Twilight in the theater (hadn't read the books yet), I went and got the soundtrack. I had no idea Rob sang two songs in the movie until after I bought the CD. I will be honest and admit that I couldn't understand half of  the words he was singing, but the tone of his voice and the emotion he injected into the songs gave me chills. It still does.

I listened to Never Think and Let Me Sign over and over. I bought the DVD and watched it with a whole new perspective. I had to have more. I searched YouTube for "Robert Pattinson singing." Oh. My. God. There were more songs. I was beside myself. I listened to I was Broken, Stray Dog, and I'll Be Your Lover Too. All of the songs were from open mic nights. Raw. Passionate. Beautiful.

The one that stuck with me the most, the one I found myself singing, the one I kept going back to listen to, was I Was Broken. I am still moved by it.

I Was Broken
Performed by Robert Pattinson

Too bad he can't do open mic nights any more :(

I would be remiss if I did a musical tribute to Rob and didn't give a shout out to his musical buddies Sam Bradley, Marcus Foster, and Bobby Long. As most of you know, all three are singer/songwriters. Some of you have already seen them in concert, and I know at least one of you is going soon *waves at Twilove1*.

I Was Broken
Written and Performed by Marcus Foster
Accompanied by Sam Bradley

Crooked Sky
Co-Written by Bobby Long and Marcus Foster
Performed by Bobby Long, Marcus Foster, and Sam Bradley

What I wouldn't give for Rob and his pals to do a show together like MTV's Unplugged – a small, controlled audience in an intimate setting. Rob, if you're reading this, have your people call my people.

With 15 blogs participating in the Birthday Blog Train, there are bound to be some duplicate pictures, especially for those of us picking music today, but I'm going to post a few anyway...and I'm going to post them in my favorite black and white.

Just please promise me that if Rob and his buddies do a show such as you described, and you get to go, that you will take me with you.

I'll give you anything...a toddler perhaps?? No? Um, all my worldly wealth?? Not much of a deal. How about my undying love and affection???
Sound good? Ok. We have a deal.

I never realized how powerful of a singer he is, till I heard this song. I love Rob as an actor, but as a musician, ah... he’s brilliant.

Awesome post. Thanks so much for this, Lisa. I agree with you 1000%. I remember hearing him sing and was blown away by his voice. He can't be British!! It's so soulful. (And only Americans are that soulful, hee hee! jk, geez) And then when I watched Twilight the 2nd time I was amazed at how the songs were perfect for the moment. (Off topic, I think the NM soundtrack sucks).

Unfortunately, I never got into the music side of Rob. I like the tone of his voice, and in a certain mood I'd definitely enjoy listening, but it's not my thing. I'm just a pop/dance music kind of girl for the most part.

Ooooh, I wish I could watch those videos right now, but they'll have to wait until tomorrow. IF ONLY we could see Rob and his mates at an open mic night! Wow.

The first video of him is great. I've never seen it. I've missed so much! Be back to watch the rest. Got kicked off the blog train last night for doing something inappopriate to Rob in the caboose!

I love that picture of Rob where he signed the guitar that was put up for charity. The store is called "Guitarded."

lol @ I didn't understand all words...
It's so true but even though I can't make out the text completely it's the voice and the feeling and the rawness that sends shivers through my spine.
Love Robs music...

Rob's music is amazing. It's what pushed me over the edge into Robsantiy too. His voice is so honest. I've said that on another comment in this blog train, but it's so true and exactly what makes me love his music soooooo much. Never Think and Let Me Sign are always going to be my favs. What a way to start my morning. Thanks for the videos!!
