My Eclipse Review by Special Request

I saw you stomping your foot impatiently on twitter the other day, MissAmyJoon, wanting to know where my Eclipse review was ;) Having seen it a few times now *coughsevencough*, I feel I'm better prepared than I was for my New Moon review.

I even had the proper materials to take good notes.

It was too dark to see what I was doing, so it ended up being like writing with my eyes closed. Judging from my scribbles, I might as well close my eyes now while I try to decipher what I wrote.

*wrinkles up paper and tosses in garbage can*

Ok. You've all seen the movie, read reviews, and/or given your own. So I'm not going to talk about the obvious: hot Robward, the wigs, the shaky camera, etc. Here are my observations, and they are just as jumbled up as my notes.

MUSIC TO SCROLL BY
(Bonus: Movie Footage)

RANDOM:
Taylor should not have tried to sport a stache.
Why was the young vampire gasping for air while Jasper was choking him?
While Carlisle is addressing the wolves before fight training, Ashley is rubbing Jackson's back.
Taylor was clearly not standing on his box for the "I kissed Bella" scene.
Bella's casual clothes at the graduation party (Kristen's influence)
The way Bella announced to Charlie she was a virgin (pure Kristen mannerisms)
I found myself counting the holes in Charlie's earlobes where Billy's earrings would go.
The way Jasper summoned Rosalie with two fingers during fight practice. Hot.
The way Jasper said "battlescars." Hot.
The way Jasper looked in Bella's dream. Hot.
Why did Edward have the ring at the end of the movie to give back to Bella?
Thank you Jake! No tribal council=no third wife story=no inspiration for Bella=no Edward.
The Bella/Rosalie "I envy you" talk had to be awkward in RL for Kristen and Nikki imo.
When Bella visits Jake after the battle, he has "sweat" everywhere but on his nose.
Jake screams like a girl.

DIALOGUE HITS:
Edward to Bella: Marry me. *sigh*
Edward to Bella: entire explanation of why he wants to get married
Edward to Bella: Does he even own a shirt?
Charlie: Super.
Charlie: I'm liking Edward a whole lot more now.
Rosalie: I was a lot more theatrical back then.
Jasper to Alice: My apologies, ma'am.
Bella to Edward: You want to do that part?
Edward to Bella: Believe me. I want to.
Edward to Jake: Run.
Bella to Jake: Stay
Jake to Edward: I am hotter than you. (NOT - but funny)
Riley: You're dead.

DIALOGUE MISSES:
Seth: ...hoovering the grub
Jake: Good lookin' out, bro.
Jake: Seth will spell me in the morning.
Bella/Edward: Where was the exchange between them after he killed Victoria? E looked put out more than anything when he ripped her shirt and wrapped it around her arm.

Overall, I love Eclipse. The time flies instead of dragging like it did for New Moon. Sure I wish the movie was four hours long and that there was more to every Bella and Edward moment, but all of the important elements were there. All along, I was one of those saying they'd better get the leg hitch right. It was in there, of course, and the camera even awkwardly zoomed in on it. Guess they thought we wouldn't be watching for it?? But it didn't have the slow burn that the first kiss in Twilight had or the spontaneous combustion that the New Moon birthday kiss had. But the more I think about it, the more it works for me. Edward is forever keeping himself in check. He has emotional and physical reasons for doing so. So the scene never really going "there" makes sense when I look at it that way.

Eclipse is my favorite book in the series and when asked what my favorite passage from the book was by Marie at Twilight Junkies Anonymous, it was the proposal. I told her I wanted to here Edward say, "I was that boy." Having seen the movie before the rest of us because she went to the Oprah taping, she had already told me that those exact words weren't in there but that I wouldn't be disappointed. She couldn't have been more right.

I remember when I read the USA Today interview where Rob was quoted as saying this:

"I was dreading the day it was coming," he says of the scene that was held until the very end of the shoot. "The first time I read the script, I thought, 'This is impossible.' " References to "promenades" and sharing "iced tea on the porch" as Edward explains how he would have courted Bella in the old days especially stuck in his throat. "It's so earnest. I finally convinced the producers that you can play it with a bit of awareness of not being a fictional character. I'm not trying to be part of a Gothic novel." When Pattinson finally watched it, however, he was pleasantly surprised. "It seems different when you see it."

The proposal scene was the highlight of the movie for me. He truly was Edward in that moment, and the feelings I felt while reading the book for the first time were captured in the movie. *whispers* You can watch it here.

Sparkle for Twilight made some gorgeous wallpapers when the movie stills were released early. Now that they aren't considered spoilers, I am happy to include them here.

And speaking of Marie from Twilight Junkies Anonymous and my multiple viewings of Twilight Saga movies, she sent me an amazing handmade gift. I have found the perfect use for it!

(I spy 17!)

Thanks again Marie for the trinket box, bookmark, and candy!

And speaking of gifts, my bloggy bestie Kit (that's Tongue Twied to you - LOL), sent me a few things. Check out her Eclipse review here and about her trip to the Hallmark store here.

When you care enough about your friends...

The ornaments will definitely be going on
my Eclipse Christmas tree this year.

Kit hit one out of the park by combining my love
of baseball, Fifty, and "vanilla."

This must have been in my package by mistake, right?
(Can't believe I'm actually including this pic!)

Thanks, Kit, for all of my goodies and the letter, which I will be sending
off to the forensics lab tomorrow to be dusted for fingerprints, as suggested.

So. I said I wouldn't talk about hot Robward.
I didn't say I wouldn't show you hot Robward :)

You didn't think I'd forget Angryward in black and white did you?

(How's your scrollitis doing, Mrs. P?)

My favorite thing about Eclipse was how "right" they got Edward. He was beautiful, as he should be.

Lisa - Have a wonderful, sparkly, Roblicious birthday!!!!!

Awesome Eclipse review! I love the dialogue hit and misses. Poor BooBoo has only a handful of lines in the movie, and those are the crappy lines they give him! LOL

Thanks for the shout outs! I'm going to open a sweat shop in my family room to start making trinket boxes for the Eclipse party! LOL I think you found the perfect use for it! Now I need to make one for myself so I can put my ticket stubs in it too. Love that idea!

Have a great day!
♥Marie

FInally Lisa! ;)

It's really all about the proposal isn't it? I think we all could watch it on repeat for days and days. I've seen it 3 times, and that's good enough for me. Going to the movies it expensive!

Also, the lack of proper graduation party attire and the over abundance Kristen-isms in the "I'm a virgin!" scene bothered me. That's all I'm saying about that.

Happy Birthday!!!

Oooo, Angry Edward looks so sexy in black and white! I concur with your review. Especially the "misses". Some of those parts were my least favorite. I'm like you. They could take every Edward and Bella scene and extend it and I would be uber happy! I wouldn't mind Eclipse being a 4 hour movie...it soared by!

Great gifts!!! I've gotta get that Christmas ornament. A friend sent me a text message with a pic of that attached a week or so ago...it's been on my list every since!

Hope you're having a great week!

Agreed about Taylor and the 'stache. Ewww!

The newborn gasped for air because it wasn't used to not breathing yet?

Weren't Jasper and Alice so sweet together in this one? *sigh*

Taylor and the box....Bwahahahahahaha!

I loved Jasper and Charlie so much in this movie. I could watch them over and over and over... well if I could move past Rob. LOL

I thought the same about the Stewstress and Reed's I envy you talk and wondered about how much of that was really felt.

Dialogue hit for me was Edward's whole I would have courted you, asked your father and presented you with a ring... *sigh*

Speaking of E tearing B's shirt and wrapping it around her arm, he wrapped it below the cut towards her wrist. Shouldn't it have been tied on her upper arm? And where did the "bandage" go when they faced the Volturri?

One thing I did notice this past time watching... Sometimes Rob's moles on his neck are visible and sometimes they're not... but his neck was always exposed.

I bet you'll have a wonderful Twi-mas this year.

Happy Birthday! Try not to party too much. And make lots and lots of Rob Wishes today.

I think I know why the kid is making choking sounds. Jackson was probably really choking him.

Very nice review and very nice gifts. LOL at taking TT's letter to get dusted for prints. Oh my gosh, hilarious.

Yes, the proposal. I love that song. And I liked reading Rob's quote....he really nailed that scene and it's cool to know he was anxious about it.

Lisa-

Could not agree with you more on most things, however you noticed a few I missed. Gosh darn it, guess I'll have to go see it a 4th time! Damn.

Love Angryward in black n' white...swoon. He looks a lot like how I'd imagine pissed off "Fifty." :)

Laters Baby,
J

Your Eclipse run down was spot on and I sooo love the video clips, I needed to see that proposal scene over again, and now I have linked it and will go back to it often. So glad you had a nice birthday, so many people sending you their best, me included!

This is a great review, Lisa, and indeed, different from every other I've read. Great job. I must admit, though, I don't remember half those things in the film that you spotted, but that's cause I've only seen Eclipse once. I really miss it, now, and feel like watching it again. Don't know whether that will happen.

You got fantastic gifts. Beautiful. I love our community.

I almost didn't leave a message, because your comments so nicely amounted to 17, and I didn't want to mess that up...but I wanted to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Love this - hope you had a great birthday and I saw on Twitter that you're already booked for viewing #9! :o

One thing, didn't Edward have the ring at the end of the book to give to Bella? He just carries it with him for when she wants it, right? I'm confused now...

@Mox – I was talking to Mrs. P the other day about the fact that Robward has so many looks...in the meadow, in the bedroom, in the argument, in the black contact lenses, in the tent...and they are all breathtaking. The lighting used during the proposal scene makes him absolutely stunning.

@DD – Awww, thanks! You definitely win for the most birthday wishes that day ;)

@Marie – I did! I was really looking forward to BooBoo as Seth and MR didn’t do him any favors. The entire scene with him and Taylor was so awkward. Total fail. No way! You didn’t make a trinket box for yourself? Wow. I feel even more special. Thanks again. I have a few more ticket stubs to add to it now ;)

@TongueTwied – I love my birthday presents, Kit! (*cough*)

@RobzSinger – Yay! Someone who actually watched the videos. LOL!! I love them. Glad you did, too.

@Jayla – You know we share a special affection for Jacksper ;) And you are correct. My roblove is definitely not waning.

@Amy – It really is all about the proposal. I still get goosebumps watching it.

What some of you don’t know is that Amy had a blog and she did an entire post about giving a crapsten. It had a flow chart and everything. I love her for so many reasons, but included in my top ten reasons is the fact that she gave me my “I give a Crapsten” motto. If she’d only known then… XOXO

@Tess – The movie really does fly by, especially after the pace of New Moon. There was a lot going on with the flashbacks, fight practice, NB battle, Charlie and Bella conversations, and all of the Robsten…er…E&B moments. I do, however, plan my restroom break, if needed, around the mountain top kiss between J&B. LOL! And I love that you left a second comment and said you didn’t want to mess up the 17 comments.

@rpfangirldc – I’m so glad someone agreed with me about the dialogue between Kristen and Nikki. With the whole Rob history between them, it had to have hit a nerve on some level. And oh my, yes, Rob was perfect delivering his lines during the proposal. I love every single moment of it. And Billy Burke chews up every scene he’s in. His comedic timing is flawless.

@Living with Edward – LMAO!! That’s the best answer yet for why the kid was choking. You are so freaking funny.

17foreverlisa said...

@Munkee – Your avi is so cute, btw! The song didn’t do much for me on its own on the soundtrack, but now that I can associate it with the proposal scene, I love it. That quote stuck in my mind when I read it, so I was glad I was able to track it down for the post.

@Twired Jen – Yes, you need to see it again. You’re falling behind! Pissed off Fifty...now that's something to swoon over ;)

@Elusive S – I got the biggest kick out of your facebook question to Jen. Did you see I clicked “Like” on it? LOL! Jackson and Ashley definitely have some chemistry, but that's nothing compared to you and Jackson.

@fran – Oh my gosh, Fran! I owe you an email, don’t I?!! I couldn’t believe it when I stumbled onto that video. Glad the link was still working. I really did have a nice birthday, thanks in part to all of you :)

@Jelena – It does make a difference that I’ve seen it a few times. I even have new observations after seeing it yesterday! Imagine that ;) And you know how much I love our community.

@Musing Bella – Yes, I did make it to number nine. I may get to number 10 this weekend, but not sure. The thing about the ring in the movie is that Edward asks Bella, just before Jacob gets there to carry her up to the tent, why she’s not wearing it. She said she didn’t want to lose it, and he challenges her that the real reason is she doesn’t want Jacob to find out. So that’s why it didn’t make sense to me that she had to ask Edward for the ring at the end of the movie.

@Mrs. P – Of course you analyzed my scribbles. LMAO! I remember talking about Rob’s heavy breathing (she said that) in New Moon after the fight scene with Felix. I’ll forgive them that one, though, because it was so smexy! We have some great bloggy friends, don’t we?

@I_heart_Fifty – I will NEVER get tired of typing your blogger name. *sigh* When I found out that Rob had gotten angry with the paparazzi over the weekend, I felt so guilty because all I could think of was that had to have been hot. LOL!

@Twilove1 – Wifi finally!!! Thanks for the birthday wish. We’ve had so many conversations about how we get each other. Friendships like ours are the biggest bonus of this whole journey. Have a safe trip back home!

@Stacked Like Sookie - I didn't want yours to get lost in the shuffle. Happy belated birthday!!! I hope you did something fun. And I got your email with the Musicward ff recs. Thank you so much! I had heard of Tropic of Virgo but had no idea it was featured a Musicward. I will definitely check them out, if I ever get out of my Fifty funk ;) I so wish Rob would record more music. Again, I feel guilty saying this because it was a bad night for our boy, but when I heard that he was leaving the house party on Saturday carrying his guitar, I felt like crying. Somewhere, people are getting to hear him jam. Gah!
