My Craptastic Day

We got snow dumped on us. Enough to make travel hazardous, but not enough to close the office. I found out that my son, who is a senior at college and a pitcher for the baseball team, has mono. It's a major setback for his final season :( I threw myself a pity party and had a few too many Bud Lights with my husband at the local tavern. The long post I was working on last night is still unfinished. I'm losing my focus trying to answer the interview questions Mrs. P sent to me. So, I'm going to ask you to do me a favor – one that will turn my frown upside down.

See that blog roll called the "PLAYGROUND" over on the right sidebar? It's there for a reason. I LOVE THOSE BLOGS AND THE GALS THAT RUN THEM!

And while you're visiting, SIGN UP TO FOLLOW. We blog owners love watching that number go up. It makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside. It's the next best thing to what Rob does to our insides ;) Just don't forget to come back here when my head's a little clearer, though. Night!

Have a great night Lisa...take it easy...and we'll see you soon!!!!!!

Take your time, remember everything will work out. And I'm a firm believer in "everything happens for a reason". You may not find out what that reason is, for a while, but you will.
Beer with a kamikaze chaser, anyone? Cheers!

Sorry about the snow...it will melt.
Sorry to hear about your son, hopefully they caught it in time and got him on meds. I'd do a shot of tequila rose for you if I had some. LOL..feel better and see you back here soon!

Sorry to hear about your crappy day & I hope things look a little better tomorrow. So will your son have to come home or is he going to be recuperating at school? I have my fingers crossed that it will be a mild case and he'll be over it in no time. Are you positive he doesn't have the wolf gene? Take care!!

I read about the mono on Edbrella first. That sucks, major time. I really don't know what to tell you, except that you shouldn't dwell on feeling bad, because you can't change what's happened, so you gotta accept it.

Love your signature btw. Don't think I noticed it before.
This is Jelena, btw, just from a different account.

@Mrs. P - Good morning . . . again :)

@Z Any Mouse - Pretty much chasing it with Excedrine Migraine this morning ;)

@rottymama - Thanks! They have him on a couple of medications to treat the symptoms (nothing they can do for the virus itself), including a steroid to reduce the swelling of his glands. He's pretty miserable but he's not a complainer, either, so he'll get there.

@Twilove1 - He has finals next week, and only one of them is in the classroom. The rest are "take home," so he can do them from his dorm room and submit them online. He's also no longer contagious. Apparently, you are infected with the virus 4-6 weeks prior to the symptoms appearing, which is why he can stay at school. He's already exposed everyone! The good news is that we are all exposed to it and 95% of us build up an immunity to the virus, which is why it doesn't advance into mono. Travis is in the 5%. We're hoping that since his girlfriend has no symptoms that she has an immunity to it already. He met her at college and she's taking good care of him, so that does help me feel better :)

@Jellow Twiholic/Jelena - I'm so glad you clarified that. I would not have put the two names together. And, you're right. I can't change things and there are certainly worse obstacles in life. We'll get through this. Thanks! And thanks for the comment about the signature. It wasn't always there. Dana at Lily Bean Designs made it for me recently. I love it, and I love her!

Bye for now, girls!

@Jello Twiholic - Just noticed I typed Jello(w). LOL!

@Lisa - I only just now saw those two "Stocking of Truth" videos. I find it totally interesting that both of them picked the same question. Is it fate? Cue the music to TWILIGHT Zone.

But what the heck did Rob answer? Who IS that person? Never heard of him.

Oh yeah, I totally feel at home at your blog, even though I only started following you less than a week ago. We exchanged so many info and thoughts during this short time that I feel it's been much, much longer. And, here's a random fact about me: my favourite number is 13. :D

17foreverlisa said...

@Jelena - I know what you mean, exactly :) Clearly, we people in the bloggy world are all about random tidbits, so thanks for sharing!

17foreverlisa said...

@Jelena - Geez! Totally forgot to answer your question about Rob's answer. Ricky Gervais is a comedian/actor. He created the original British version of "The Office." You can check him out here. He's also going to be hosting the upcoming Golden Globes. Wonder if he's seen that video?

Anonymous said...

@Jelena---he's the guy from the UK's "The Office", or from HBO's "Extras"...he's a hysterical actor.

@sprtzmom--seeing the follower #'s rise is the best feeling ever...then again, I've never felt Rob rise...but I bet it's almost as good as that. (I couldn't resist)

17foreverlisa said...

@Mrs. P - *BIG SMILE*

*Jelly Belly * said...

@Mrs. P - ROFL! Rob rising. That should be the title of your next post.

Thanks for the info. Never watched the Office, so I wouldn't know.

Thanks TigerlilyRose and Mary :)

BTW - My son just called and no wonder he feels so "craptastic." The doctor's office called and said that the overnight strep test came up positive, so he has strep to go along with the mono. They had already started him on an antibiotic, though, so not much else to do.

TwiWeasel said...

@ Lisa - Ah, Jeez...I feel so bad for Travis!! Mono is bad enough but to have Strep on top of it!! Best he can do is just drink lots and take the meds and painkillers...Good thing he has a girlfriend to take care of him (although I'm sure she's not quite as good at it as as his mother would be, but she'll do.)

@ Jelena - My daughter's fave number is also 13! It's always her number when she plays sports!

17foreverlisa said...

@TwiWeasel - Thanks :) He says the meds are giving him cotton mouth but he checked with the nurse and she said that's to be expected and to just keep drinking fluids. And, yes, it's hard to imagine anyone giving him more tlc than me, but it sounds like she's doing a terrific job, and for that I'm thankful.

Zanymouse said...

@Travis - Hang in there baby! There's lots of mommies out here pulling for you.

17foreverlisa said...

@Z Any Mouse - Awwww. Thanks!

TigerlilyRose said...

@Lisa Hot tea with lots of HONEY will help that sore throat, work for me every time! Honey has antibacterial properties, they used to use it like we use Neosporin now. It help his throat heal plus it feels good.

17foreverlisa said...

@Tigerlilyrose - He likes both, so I will definitely tell him. Thanks, sweetie!

*Jelly Belly * said...

@Lisa - a very belated comment about your sarcastic comment regarding my clarification that it was me on that other account. Let me hear you say that to STY or JJ, hmpf! :p

TwiWeasel said...

Hot tea with lots of honey is the only good thing about having a sore throat!! Make sure to tell Travis that he's got all these moms worrying over him!! LOL

*Jelly Belly * said...

Okay, just so we're clear, I do care about your son's well being, I just don't have any practical advice for you, other than the one I've already given. I think I should leave medical tips to moms.

@Lisa---tell your son to walk over to the girl's dorm and ask one of them to show him their boobs. That should bring a smile to his face, or a slap...either one should make his day exciting.

Note to self: do not ever let my teenage son meet Mrs. P

:)

TwiWeasel said...

@ Mrs. P - Yet more boob flashing...I think you're gonna do it.

Anonymous said...

@twilove1---you have a teenage son? Does he look like your profile pic?

@TwiWeasel---NO!!! I can't. Can I? GAH!!

17foreverlisa said...

Geez! Sorry I missed everyone commenting while I was driving home from work.

@Jelena/Jellow Twiholic - Oops! I did it again. Honest mistake. Promise! LOL!

@Mrs. P - My son tells me he has met the love of his life at college this year and I'm pretty sure he doesn't even have to leave his dorm room for a booby shot. Just sayin'.

@Twilove1 - Your Note to self comment cracked me up!!

@TwiWeasel - I think she will, too ;)

Lisa,

Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I just came across your blog today via "Our Twilight Bubble" blog. I'm honored to be your 50th follower!

Thank you for commenting on my layout (even though I can't take credit for it). I do take pride in the way the posts look, so thank you for noticing. I LOVE your layout! Blues and grays are great colors :o)

I'm looking forward to reading your future posts! In the meantime I will go through your archive.

Thank you again! I really appreciate it!

Amy

(And yes, you may be so bold as to call me Amy) :o)

TwiWeasel said...

@ Mrs. P - you are a strong, independent woman...yes, you can do it!

17foreverlisa said...

@Amy - Hello, again! I'm glad you like the blog. I'm not sure what resolution you are viewing it at. If it's a high resolution, you should be able to see stripes on the far left and right. If a it's a lower resolution, you won't see the stripes, just the floral pattern. Either way, I can't take complete credit for the design. Dana at LilyBean Designs was so much fun to work with. Very patient. If you do go back into the archives, you will see a post I did about working with her.

Thanks for stopping by, Amy (since you gave me persmission to call you that *smile*), and I'm sure we'll talk again soon.

@Sprtzmom - I forgot to tell you, it looks like Twilove, F-Kat, and myself are going to be getting together soon (if I can ever get my in-laws to settle on a family party day, and if my daughter's soccer season will ever end). So, thanks! We'll keep you posted :)

17foreverlisa said...

@Z Any Mouse - I think that's awesome! I don't think F-Kat follows me, so you'll have to get her tanked up and convince her to see the light. Just kidding! I'm sure you will have fun and I can't wait for details and pics :)

Thanks for mentioning me babe. Great post!

17foreverlisa said...

@rpattzgirl - You are definitely one of my faves and anyone that follows me should be following you, too :)

I'm two minutes away from my post if you can hang in there!

TwiloveSue said...

@Mrs P - ha ha! If my son looks like my profile pic, does that mean Rob is his baby daddy?

@Z Any Mouse - Just say when and I'm there!

@Sprtzmom - Sending more happy thoughts your way! Oh, and holy hell, today's Faces of Rob pic is awesome!!

17foreverlisa said...

@Twilove1 - I was just about to turn my computer off and try and get a few hours sleep when I saw your comment. Loved your "baby daddy" comment! Thanks for the happy thoughts, and I'm glad you liked the Faces of Rob pic. It's definitely one of my favorites. I had it as a screensaver for a long time. I have no idea what photo shoot it's from, but I wish I did. There has to be some more taken of him in that fantastic white shirt.

@EVERYONE - I've changed my blogger "name" (and avi) from sprtzmom1721 to Lisa @ 17 Forever to better match the blog name. Hope it won't be too confusing for everyone.

Night!

Sorry to hear about your son...Mono & strep, that's adding insult to injury! Hopefully he will feel better very soon & it won't affect him as long as they think. Crossing my fingers for him! I don't always comment, but enjoy reading your blog every day. Keep 'em coming, we love you for it!

Zanymouse said...

@Lisa @ 17 Forever - Lisprtzmomforever17?

17foreverlisa said...

@Z Any Mouse - LOL! Now that's a mouthful :) My sprtzmom1721 is so linked to my RL and my kids, that I thought it was just as well that I left it there.

I forgot to comment on the fact that you loved the KOL song. It's definitely worth buying the CD. I love, love, love Caleb Followill's voice. Very sexy.
