I Can't Help Falling In Love With You

Just pretend it's Thursday when you see this post. I don't think Stan at Twi-sted Edbrella is going to have a problem with that. This post was supposed to go up last night, but my daughter came over for supper and to visit (which was awesome!!) and then in the middle of working on the post, we lost power. I called it an early night and had to regroup on my lunch break. I still hope to get my Freaking Friday post up later tonight.

When I was growing up, I was exposed to all kinds of music, which is why my taste is still eclectic today. One thing that was always a constant, however, was my parents' love of Elvis Presley's music. I still have my parents' collection of 45s, which includes Love Me Tender and In the Ghetto, just to name a few. They passed that love on to me, and I passed it on to my son. My daughter, like my sister, likes him, but doesn't love him.

I can still remember Elvis's TV specials as "events" at our house. We watched them on the big console TV in our living room - my dad, my mom, my younger sister, and I. Mom always popped popcorn. It was a given. Probably the reason popcorn is my comfort food of choice.

As we got older, the Las Vegas specials got bigger, my parents' stereo got better, and the music got louder. My dad looked a lot like Elvis when he was younger - the hair, the eyes, the profile - and he killed us with his reenactments of Elvis songs like Burning Love.

So I'm not surprised that I see similarities between Elvis and Rob. I know that other people see it, too. Dangrdafne reminded me of this gorgeous picture of Elvis.

The sexhair, the profile, the way he dresses...all scream Rob.
Still not convinced?

Tell me you see it now.
*sigh*

And there are so many other similarities when you stop to think about it. Larger than life. Bring women of all ages to their knees just by flashing a crooked smile. Singer. Musician. Actor. (Well, my dad would disagree on this, as he was never fond of Elvis's movies; and mmMoxie might have something to say about Rob's acting abilities, but I ignore her crazy talk.) Action figures and lunch boxes with their likenesses on them. I did find one item during my search that Rob doesn't have, and I WANT ONE with Rob on it, of course!

I think they both found their Priscillas, too.
If for no other reason than they will
forever be linked in our minds.

On that note, I leave you with this.  I found it telling
that they finished each other's sentences and were in
total agreement on the artist they wanted to here.

I love you, Dad.

***NOTE***

mmMoxie will be hosting Friday night Drunk Mad Libs at Twilight Sagapalooza later tonight, so stop by and play! Make sure you read the directions first, though. I may or may not have when I played last week. Just sayin'.

Hey now! I don't think Rob or Elvis are terrible actors. I just didn't appreciate Rob's performance in NM.

"Young" Elvis if fucking hot and I totally get the connection between the two. Especially this pic of Rob: http://www.snitchseeker.com/gallery/albums/userpics/64838/Robert_Pattinson.jpg

BTW...that picture of shirtless Elvis is YUMMY!

My sis (Derble on my blog) is and alway has been in love with Elvis. No wonder she drools over Rob.

See ya tonight for some Drunk Mad Libs!

@mmMoxie - LOL!! Too funny that you were the first to comment btw. That's a great picture of Rob rockin' the Elvis look. Tell your sister she has great taste. See you later tonight for Drunk Mad Libs. Now if we could just get the Twilight/New Moon Scene It DVD Skype thing figured out...

mmMoxie said...

I am afraid the Skype thing is a little too much for me. I'm not much of an organizer and I don't like to put a lot of effort into anything. I am the epitome of the generation X slacker.

17foreverlisa said...

We need to remind STY that she was going to organize one.

oooo! I love passing the buck! You tell her.

Amazing photos you used for comparison...I just think it's telling how we seem to gravitate to the same 'types'over and over...Elvis' hair was a main part of his "magnetism".

Lisa, Those comparisons are beautiful and in some way totally true. The fans know what they want and how to get it. Love the hunka-hunka-burnin pics,*sigh*!
And the vid with Rob & Kristen, so cute. I think you turned me into a RobSten. D A M- I T to hell! And everyone hated Cilla for marrying E. Look who’s laughing all the way to the bank now!

So how much fun did you have searching for the matching Elvis and Rob pictures? :) I love this post and I can feel the love you have for Elvis, Rob and your Dad. I so wish my Dad were around for this Twilight craze, he would love it all.

That "total package" both have is undeniable! And I clearly remember myself telling hubby "this guy could play Elvis!" the second time I saw Twilight.

Awesome job with these pics! thanks!

I look at the youtube vid @ 3:00+ and wonder how could we have ever thought they weren't dating. Maybe it is just the Elvis music but it seems so obvious how smitten they are with each other. (and I'm okay with that, sort of, lol)

Ok, here's my thoughts on Robsten whether you like it or not. I am comforted by the fact that young Hollywood relationships rarely last. I don't like her and it isn't because I don't want Rob to be with anyone. It's because she annoys the shit out of me.

@17foreverLisa - You mean to tell me you don't have a backup generator to keep your blog going in the event of such emergencies, wha?! I just don't think you have your priorities straight..Kidding, I hope you had a nice visit with your daughter too.

I've never been a big Elvis fan, but I do own the Christmas album, which I play faithfully every year (I have many that don't get played), and one of my best vacations ever was when Mommy Any Mouse and I went to Memphis and toured Beale St. and Graceland. Loved it!! Aaand I'm starting to like him a little more, because the similarities between E and RP are undeniable. I'm going out with the hubtard tonight, so regretably I won't be able to play Mad Libs. Drat!

Thanks Lisa! I hadn't really noticed the Elvis similarities until you pointed them out. I always compare Rob to James Dean. Sex hair, fuckhawt cigarette, messy, bad boy look...ooooh...is it getting hot in here...think I need some air! See ya later for Drunk Mad Libs...opening my wine bottle now!

Who knew? This I had not noticed at all. Very cool.

Grrreat post Lisa!

Believe it or not, I was a fan of Elvis since I was little. His Sun records songs was the first CD I ever bought. I even asked Santa for Elvis songs for Christmas! I was totally fascinated by him.

The picture comparison is amazing! However, *ahem* I will have to disagree on the "finding his Priscilla" part. :)

Loved the post, Lisa! Elvis made me nostalgic and Rob made me hot - both good things in my book.

And that video, yikes! Seeing Rob & Kristen together like that is the most telling indication of their relationship that I've seen yet. Wow. It's not that I don't want them to be together now, I just want to trade places with her so he could look at me like that.

Um I had noticed on a couple of pics but didn't say anything cos I thought I'd be called STUPID lol. I loved Elvis when I was around 11 years old before i went all Iron Maiden and Led Zep and T Rex when I was 13 but for those 2 years he was my idol. I absolutely adored him, thought he had been the most gorgeopus man ever. The hair, the eyes, rhe lips; all the things I love about Rob.
I have to go with Amy about the Priscilla thing, I think they're both too young and the business they're in doesn't help relationships and I fucking can't stand her anyway as you all know...pmsl whats that great lyric...oh yeah " it shoulda been me"
I kid I'm not that delusional-not yet!!!

NibbleitPattinsonakaNebilet said...

Ps Fucking love that version of can't help falling in love unfortunately it made me tear up as it made me think of something.
Also gah look at the pair of them, ugh, they doing it, I hate to admit and if they're not why are they not bringing that level of acting ability to the screen!!!

Gwenward said...

Beautiful. I never noticed the similarities between the two either. It's romantic and tragic at the same time. That last video did me in though, @2:37-ish when they're holding hands, gah! soooo jealous!

I've mentioned before that Rob reminds me of Elvis so much sometimes. Not just his amazing looks but his charisma, charm & his smile. All the things that attracted ppl to Elvis are there in Rob in spades! Loved the video, it's sweet with that song. Loved the comparison of Rob & Kristen to Elvis & Priscilla. I know some ppl don't like Kristen but honestly it's not up to US to like her, we're not the ones dating her, he is. And obviously he likes her just fine! Very obviously!! lol...The reason I like the comparison...I don't know, I guess I'm just a romantic at heart & like the thought of life-long love like E & P had. I don't know alot about their relationship but I think they always loved each other, to the end. And I think Rob & Kris will, even if they don't stay together in that sense.

*Jelly Belly * said...

Don't say that! I don't want Rob to die a death like Elvis (whose music I adore, btw)...
but all in all, a very nice comparison, Lisa.

@Z Any Mouse - Yes, we do have a generator, but I don't think the husband would have fired it up for blogging purposes. LOL! You missed one hell of a night with Mad Libs, etc. Hope you had fun with the hubby, though. I toured Graceland years ago with my parents and would love to go back now that I'm older and can appreciate it more.

@TigerlilyRose - Yes, Rob can definitely be compared to James Dean, too!

@CC - Always glad to be of service. LOL!

@Isabella MARIE Cullen - Welcome!! Yes, that picture of Rob is adorkable and the real Rob. He just flips a switch for photo shoots, I swear.

@Amy, Twilove1, Nibbles, Spellbound - I do think that Rob has found his Priscilla because no matter where life takes them, Rob and Kristen will forever be linked in my mind, just like Elvis and Priscilla :)

@Jelena - That's where I draw the line at the comparisons!!!

Rob and Kristen would make the best Elvis and Pricilla in a movie. There are so many things that remind me of Elvis in Rob's features and mannerisms. I got to see one of Elvis's concerts and that the man looked like a Greek God, same as I feel for Rob. Somebody, please make a Elvis movie with Rob.

17foreverlisa said...

@Jane - What a nice surprise to get a comment on an older post. Rob has so man "faces" and many comparisons can be made, and have been made, but my favorite is definitely Elvis. That's awesome that you got to see him in concert.
